What is the Alaska Sporting Dog Association (ASDA)?
ASDA is a community of sporting dog owners, handlers, and enthusiasts dedicated to promoting responsible dog ownership, training, and participation in dog sports throughout Alaska.

Membership is open to anyone interested in sporting dogs, whether you are a beginner, experienced handler, breeder, or simply enjoy being involved in the community.

While ASDA focuses on sporting breeds, all breeds and mixed breeds are welcome to participate in many activities, depending on the event.

Membership

How do I become a member?
You can join by completing the membership application on our website and submitting payment for annual dues.

What types of events does ASDA host?
ASDA currently hosts or supports a variety of activities, including:

• Sporting Group conformation shows

• Fun matches

• Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluations

• Possible Fetch events (as offered/available)

 

Do I need prior experience to participate?
No. Many events and training opportunities are beginner-friendly, and members are encouraged to learn and grow at their own pace.

 

How do I sign up for events?
Event registration details will be posted on the website and/or social media. Some events may require advance registration.

 

What should I bring to an event?
This depends on the event, but generally:

• Your dog on appropriate equipment (leash, collar, etc.)

• Water and treats

• Weather-appropriate gear

• Proof of vaccinations if required

Dog Requirements

Does my dog need to be registered (AKC)?
Yes. All ASDA events require AKC registration.

Volunteering

Can I volunteer if I’m not experienced?
Yes. Volunteers of all experience levels are welcome and appreciated. Training or guidance will be provided as needed.
